has been easily and neatly located in designated service areas out of the public view . But what really makes the air conditioning disappear are the controls , essentially a computer-run building management system . This ensures accurate temperature control throughout the year , providing exceptionally high comfort levels from the air conditioning system .
LIGHTING AND DESIGN CONSULTANT ’ S COMMENT Introduction Shopping malls have , of late , become uninspiring and repetitive in their offerings . This applies especially to the lighting design . Clients , as well as designers , have tended to opt for a traditional , secure approach to the lighting of malls . In the case of Design Quarter , the consultants tried to achieve a unique and more authentic approach to the lighting design .
The lighting of the project can be split into essentially two aspects . The first and most low key , is the external façade , while the second is the internal mall . The development is bounded on the northern side by a residential area . This required that the external lighting be low key and non-intrusive .
The internal mall comprises three areas , namely the main mall , link mall and piazza . The link mall runs perpendicular to the main mall and feeds into the junction between the main mall and piazza .
