Design Quarter , a new concept in retail design , was launched late last year in Johannesburg . It is intended as a prototype for similar developments around the country .

ARCHITECT ’ S COMMENT The project was jointly executed by VIVID Architects as design and concept architects , with Paragon Architects being appointed to execute the project on site and liaise with the project team for the resolution of detail and the cost engineering aspects of the fast track construction .
Clients Brief The architects were approached to look at a concept for a retail centre that would be focused as a one-stop design and décor destination for consumers . Four new concept home stores by national tenants ( Woolworths , Mr Price Home , Boardmans and @ home ) were to anchor the scheme , with dedicated specialist design and décor line shops enriching the décor retail offering . In keeping with the holistic onestop shop experience desired by Zenprop , a first and second floor of showrooms above the retail level was intended to accommodate designers , architects , and design related firms .
The architects were also requested to look at the overall Nicol Grove Precinct , with the new Design Quarter building being the new heart of the precinct . The existing
Retail centres are more than just a convenient place to shop - they should provide a place of gathering and socialising
