The need for a major shopping centre to serve the greater Pietermaritzburg and Midlands area had been identified by Liberty Properties some years ago , as the residents of these areas had always had to travel to Durban and its environs for their requirements .

Liberty Group Properties , is a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Group Limited and handles all property related matters for the group . They own ( either wholly or in consortia ) all categories of property but specialise in investments in and management of prime retail , office and hotel developments . Liberty Properties manages this property portfolio on behalf of Liberty Group and where applicable , its consortium partners .
The total value of the property portfolio being managed by Liberty Properties is in excess of R12bn , of which more than R9bn is directly attributable to Liberty Group , which made them an ideal partner in the development of this much needed facility .
The Site The site of the old Corobrik quarry , ± 40,8ha , was selected as a suitable location for the new shopping centre , which developed after a series of objections to the planned scheme held up construction for a number of years . The site posed several problems as a river ran through the site , access was problematic and therefore required careful handling of both the siteworks and the provision of the engineering solution to the situation . The Town Bush stream , the river that runs through the site , has shifted and changed course , due to the clay which lined its course . The
