Despite its scale and its location on the outskirts of Abuja, the building retains a strong connection to local character. The façade’ s greyish beige and brown tones echo surrounding earth colours and the basket weave pattern on key feature walls draws inspiration from Nigerian craft traditions. These elements embed AMCE in its cultural environment and create a welcoming sense of identity for patients and visitors.
Landscape and External Spaces Landscaping forms an integral part of the centre’ s healing environment. The design incorporates an arboretum, landscaped roof terraces and a series of outdoor breakaway spaces for staff and mobile patients. These areas offer therapeutic benefits, support wellbeing and strengthen the connection between nature and clinical care. Native tree species were chosen for their resilience, biodiversity value and cultural significance, ensuring ecological integration and a strong sense of place.
