The African Medical Centre of Excellence( AMCE) in Abuja is one of the most ambitious healthcare developments on the continent. Conceived as a pioneering diagnostic, treatment and research hub, the centre aims to serve more than 250,000 patients across Africa within its first five years while attracting skilled healthcare professionals to Nigeria. Its mission is to establish a blueprint for world-class medical infrastructure in West Africa and significantly reduce the need for outbound medical tourism.

Developed in four phases, AMCE is the first facility of its kind in Africa. Phase one delivers a 170-bed specialist hospital with plans to expand to 500 beds by phase three. The project brings together a network of international partners including King’ s College Hospital in London, The Christie Hospital in Manchester and the University of Wisconsin Teaching Hospital in the United States. Supported by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, AMCE will also house the largest and most diverse biobank in the region.
AMCE is designed as a next-generation quaternary care hospital offering a full spectrum of clinical and diagnostic services
