Great Oaks Retirement Village, Constantia
OTHER DEVELOPMENT AWARD
Great Oaks Retirement Village in Constantia is a visionary, research-led development that redefines senior living through an integrated approach to architecture, care, technology, sustainability and community. More than a place to live, it is a forward-thinking model for dignified ageing.
The project comprises 53 Age in Place cottages, 30 apartments and 20 frail care and memory care suites, all within a universally accessible, biophilic village. A Life Right model ensures long-term affordability, while the Age in Place philosophy supports residents through the full continuum of care-independent, assisted, frail, memory and home-based-without the need for relocation.
Central to the innovation is the Lifestyle Centre, featuring a restaurant, spa, gym, ozone therapy pool and hyperbaric oxygen chambers. The adjacent Health Centre introduces dementia-sensitive design elements such as circadian lighting, acoustic ceilings, memory boxes and sensory gardens with calming indigenous plants.
Built across the 21m slope, the site uses stepfree walkways and Cape Venacular inspired modular architecture. Sustainable practices create a regenerative, connected and resilient environment that sets a new benchmark for innovative, future-ready senior living.
