central grassed area within the parking field introduces a meaningful green element into the heart of the site. Conceived as a‘ green lung’, it provides visual relief from the surrounding hardscape and creates a flexible setting for informal recreation, markets and community activities.
The environmental response also extends to the site’ s challenging topography and stormwater management. Extensive earthworks, retaining structures and platforming were used to accommodate the stepped site, while an integrated attenuation pond and stormwater system manage runoff and support long-term drainage performance.
The public realm is consequently an important part of how the centre works. Continuous covered walkways provide shelter while maintaining a lightfilled environment, with seating, planting and retail frontage layered along the pedestrian route. The landscape is used not only to soften the buildings but also to guide movement, provide shade and improve the microclimate.
This becomes particularly effective around the restaurant areas, where outdoor dining engages directly with the pedestrian environment. The combination of restaurants, terraces and the central spine creates a more animated experience throughout the day and into the evening. The development was also designed to accommodate smaller activations and seasonal pop-ups, providing opportunities for community events and local businesses to participate in the life of the centre.
Designed for Convenience Convenience remains fundamental to the project. Clear vehicular access, efficient parking and strong visual relationships between parking areas and retail frontages make the centre straightforward to navigate, while the central spine provides a clear organising element once visitors enter
