Omni Square Bassonia is a contemporary open-air retail development that brings together shopping, dining, landscape and public space to create a new destination within one of Johannesburg South’ s established residential areas. Conceived as a contemporary interpretation of the suburban high street, the development is structured around a clear pedestrian spine, active retail edges and a strong connection between the built environment and its surrounding landscape.
The project forms part of a larger retail node, positioned directly opposite the established Bassonia Shopping Centre, with both centres under the same ownership. Rather than functioning as competing destinations, the two centres complement one another and collectively form a substantial open-air retail and lifestyle hub for the area. Omni Square adds a new dimension to the node, introducing its own architectural character alongside a strong mix of retail, food and hospitality.
The development comprises approximately 13,283m 2 of GLA across 30 shops and sits within an immediate catchment of more than 22,000 households. From the outset, the intention was to establish an upmarket convenience and lifestyle destination that could serve the everyday needs of the surrounding community while also providing reasons to visit beyond the weekly shop.
