Plascon has introduced RubberTUFF Waterproofer, a reinforced rubberacrylic waterproofing system developed for South African roofing applications. Combining a roof coating with a dedicated waterproofing membrane, the product forms a seamless barrier accommodating movement caused by temperature changes and existing cracks. MALEKANE MALL OPENS IN GREATER TUBATSE
Twin City Development’ s latest retail asset, Malekane Mall, officially opened on 24 September 2026, introducing a new shopping destination to the greater Tubatse area and strengthening the retail offering serving Steelpoort and surrounding communities.
Developed by Twin City in partnership with GMI Property Group, the approximately 19,000m ² mall accommodates more than 60 retailers across grocery, fashion, services, food and everyday essentials.
The centre is anchored by Shoprite, Boxer, Roots and Cashbuild, with national retailers including Clicks, Jet, PEP, Ackermans, Truworths, Mr Price, Sportscene and Studio 88 contributing to the tenant mix.
Investment Beyond Retail Malekane Mall forms part of a broader investment in the area ' s infrastructure and economic development. More than R13 million was invested in surrounding roads, public infrastructure and bulk services, while a recently completed adjacent bridge has improved accessibility and road safety for surrounding communities.
The development has created approximately 700 permanent jobs. During construction, almost R20 million was spent on local labour and materials, helping to retain a significant proportion of the project ' s investment within the local economy.
Community initiatives associated with the development have included renovations to local crèches and partnerships with surrounding schools.
A Long-Term Development Nearly two decades in the making, Malekane Mall is the result of ongoing collaboration between the developers, traditional leadership and the local community. The development was conceived not only as a retail centre but as a social destination offering spaces where the community can gather. Facilities include a food court, amphitheatre, children ' s play area and big-screen television, creating opportunities for dining, entertainment and community events alongside the mall ' s retail offering.
According to Twin City CEO Ryno de Leeuw, the vision was to create more than a place to shop, with the mall intended to provide a vibrant community meeting place where visitors can shop, dine and spend time together. With improved access to national retailers, new employment opportunities and investment in surrounding infrastructure, Malekane Mall is positioned to develop into an important commercial and social hub for Steelpoort and the wider Tubatse area.
