Barlow Park is a multi-billion-rand mixed-use precinct located in Sandton, Johannesburg, between the M1 highway and Katherine Street, adjacent to Innisfree Park. Formerly the headquarters of Barloworld Limited, the site has been redeveloped as a high-quality, high-density, affordable residential precinct, underpinned by commercial, educational, and leisure amenities.
This multi-phase development includes retail shops, restaurants, a school, a business centre, a gym, and other supporting functions within an open-air, pedestrianfocused environment. Its location, within walking distance of Sandton Central, aims to establish an inclusive and sustainable community with direct access to economic opportunities and green space. The development responds to the legacy of urban sprawl and spatial segregation that has long characterised Johannesburg.
Phase Two Overview Phase Two includes two residential blocks comprising 846 rental units positioned above retail components. Like Phase One, this phase prioritises integration, accessibility, and high-quality living. A grand stair leads up to the podium level, where communal facilities such as the school, recreation centre, lounge, clubhouse, pool, gym, and business centre are located.
Substantial basement parking is available, accessed via a dedicated guardhouse for residents. E-hailing drop-off points are distributed throughout the precinct, improving urban mobility.
Architecturally, Barlow Park demonstrates how thoughtful design, passive climate strategies and a commitment to inclusivity can converge into a resilient and liveable city model
