A centrally positioned dining hall anchors the residential precinct, supported by an industrial kitchen, laundry facilities and teacher residences. Together, these components create a self-contained residential community that reimagines student living as a curated‘ home away from home’.
The placement of the boarding facilities away from the urban edge was a deliberate planning decision, allowing students a sense of calm and retreat from the activity of Durban’ s beachfront precinct. Landscaped internal spaces
and controlled circulation further reinforce the atmosphere of security and sanctuary.
A Maritime Gateway Arrival at the campus is defined by a striking vehicular entrance designed around a strong maritime theme. A tensile canopy structure stretches over the vehicle entrance, mimicking the form of a ship’ s sail, while the adjacent gatehouse references the silhouette of a lighthouse. Together, these elements firmly establish the architectural identity of the school from the moment of arrival.
