was proposed . High-gloss black Chinese lacquer ceilings create a bold and dramatic backdrop to the lobby , together with the Kiaat return wall paneling reflecting textures such as the woven GKD stainless steel mesh curtain wall . The clean white glass ‘ floating ’ reception desk echoes the architectural finishes ; the Kiaat used on key walls and returns create warm niches in this space .
The background to all of this is the GKD stainless steel curtain , spanning slab to slab , whose consistency is evocative of woven texture whilst being a very modern high tech product , thus creating a subtle barrier between the mezzanine and the below lobby , as no balustrades were implemented . The Kiaat not only adds warmth but texture amongst the high floss finishes and adds a typically African element in a modern clean design . The combination of modern , warm and textured materials applied above , in simple large planes create a grand entrance . The end result is an interesting juxtaposition of materials that are impactful , modern and timeless .
