The more sculptural side of Brazilian modernism is one of the strongest influences on the modernist architecture of Tshwane . Like all good traditions , perhaps this is one that requires renewal . In a sideways nudge and a wink to older and newer Brazilian architecture , Paragon Architects has designed a new head office for AFGRI for Tshwane-based developer , M & T Commercial .
Both client and tenant wanted to maximise the visual impact of an elevated site platform immediately adjacent to the main Johannesburg - Tshwane motorway . The developer had a specific need to set a new benchmark for better design quality in its extensive portfolio . Paragon Architects were invited to submit proposals specifically on the basis of their track record for producing innovative buildings in a highway setting . The tenant , AFGRI , is a dynamic agricultural services and finance business , with a need to shed a rather staid and conservative corporate image . In this coming-together of skills and needs , a unique coalition for the production of a unique building was born .
Macro This is a catalyst building in the new Bylsbridge office park development , wedged between the noisy motorway on its northern edge and a community of low-density single storey houses on its southern edge . The form and the detailing of the building
