• A filling station requiring a clear line of sight , limiting buildable land .
• Adjacent open military land , restricting certain development options .
• The need for road access to integrate through a residential suburb .
• A height restriction limiting the building to three levels due to zoning regulations .
Accommodation The design accommodates 400 students over three levels , with each bedroom set up as a double room for two occupants . The rooms are thoughtfully designed with built-in furniture , including a desk , under-counter fridge , and a wardrobe for clothing and personal storage , ensuring that students have everything they need within a compact and efficient layout .
In addition to the double rooms , there is a single senior room on each floor , providing private accommodation for students with specific roles or needs . Both the double and single rooms measure 16m 2 , offering a balanced living space that supports both individual privacy and shared living . This design prioritises functionality and comfort , with each room designed to cater to the practical requirements of student life while maintaining a welcoming and organised environment .
The campus is divided into four blocks , each fostering a sense of community and belonging within the broader student body . The blocks create smaller , intimate ‘ neighbourhoods ’ that encourage social interaction while offering students a sense of ownership and connection .
Each floor includes its own ablution facilities , social lounge , and kitchenette . This design ensures that students can live independently while having access to shared spaces for cooking , socialising and relaxation , enhancing convenience and reducing the need to travel between floors .
The bedrooms are oriented along a north-south axis to maximise natural light while minimising heat gain and loss . This orientation enhances the building ’ s energy efficiency , helping to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the year without excessive heating or cooling .
