for additional floorspace but without the need to undergo column strengthening . The design team were challenged with incorporating a precise material such as steel onto the existing unprecise concrete structure of the older buildings but this was achieved and the new addition acts as a successful modern transition between the existing mid century elements .
At the rear new parking was built . It was not possible to excavate to accommodate parking as the site is built over the old fort and any excavation could have disturbed the historical site . As a result a concrete raft was cast and the new parking was built on top of this .
The Developers HCI Properties ( a division of HCI Limited ) is the majority shareholder alongside Swish Property Fund ( Pty ) Ltd and Blue Rock Management Services ( Pty ) Ltd . Swish was the appointed development manager responsible for the development oversight .
Blue Rock Management Services is owned by Gordon Verhoef who was a co-founder and shareholder of GVK Siya-Zama , who previously owned the property . It was therefore great to have Gordon on board and for him to be a part of this upgrade and gentrification of the Woodstock node .
