EDITORIAL
As we come to the end of another year , with its share of challenges for us all , I like to look back at the amazing projects that the magazine has featured and am always heartened by and proud of the standard of work that our Built Environment community designs and builds . It ’ s made up of some amazing people that I enjoy dealing with , whether it be on a project or a product that is being launched . Sadly this year has seen the passing of some of those talented people , including Louis Karol , Gary Steinberg and John Truter - all at the top of their game . Certainly a loss for their colleagues as well as the families . Whilst new office developments have taken a back seat during the Pandemic , the focus this year has been on some exciting retail developments , especially outside of the large Metros . Mixed use projects , industrial and data centres and refurbishment from office to residential and student accommodation are also the projects that have kept our industry busy during these unsettled times . I would like to wish everyone a well deserved break over the holidays and hope to see you refreshed and ready to tackle whatever 2022 brings .

22 GREEN SCHOOL The Green School in Paarl is part of a global network of schools that actively engage in creating a future that is rooted in sustainable practices at all levels .
34 JAN MOUTON LEARNING CENTRE This building for Stellenbosch University has been designed as a contemporary multifunctional facility on the central campus , and all faculties share this space .
44 TRAMWAY HOUSE After substantial redevelopment the building is now the new head office of Denstu , one of the world ’ s largest advertising and marketing companies .
50 ELLIPSE WATERFALL The vision of Waterfall City is to establish a vibrant , modern destination that embraces urban living . Ellipse Waterfall is the first high-rise luxury apartment development in the heart of Waterfall City .
58 LINKSFIELD SHUL The centre is a project engaging an existing synagogue and community space , located in the heart of Linksfield .

70 THE ELEMENTS LIBRARY The design team from Hubo Architecture & Design set out to reinvent reading by creating a wonderland full of dynamic spaces for the reader .
