The Green School is part of a global network of schools that actively engage in creating a future that is rooted in sustainable practices at all levels . From its origins in Bali , the Green School now has schools opening in New Zealand , Mexico and South Africa . The Green School campus in South Africa is situated in the fertile Paarl-Franschhoek valley and is defined by low-lying vineyards and orchards contained by spectacular mountains .

Founded by John Hardy , Green School ’ s focus is on sustainability through the learning environment , curriculum and co-curricular activities . “ Green School is a special place that has , over the last decade , proven that a new model of education is not only possible , but essential . It has taught us that a wall-less environment opens minds in ways no concrete box ever will ; that true understanding only comes from hands-on experience instead of remote learning ; that an authentic engagement with the local culture and community is incredibly enriching ; and shown us time and time again that humanity ’ s progress starts from a child ’ s curiosity ,” says Green School .
Climate Driven From the outset the challenge was to create a campus that is part of this global community but that is defined by its context , climate and heritage . In Bali , the beautiful and intricate bamboo structures without walls make sense in terms of material , climate ,
