My Space @ Dorpstreet is the newest edition to the My Space family of residences in Stellenbosch . One of the defining aspects of the Dorpstreet building is its focus on creating functional spaces that cater to the needs of both residents and visitors . It is designed for comfort and convenience and houses a diverse range of amenities , including an in-house gym , deli , braai area , and laundromat . The first and second floors include a centrally located quiet library area , accompanied by board rooms and Zoom booths , where residents can work and study .
TV3 Architects and Town Planners were instructed by My Space to design a modern and convenient co-living space that takes advantage of its ideal location in one of South Africa ’ s most prominent student towns . The location is a stone ’ s throw from Stellenbosch railway station , where the iconic Adam Tas and Dorp streets converge at the foot of the Papegaai mountain , forming a gateway to Dorp Street , which is a provincial heritage site .
The popular Ya-Ya Cafe is directly across the street , and there are a number of grocery stores and restaurants within walking distance . It is part of the ‘ Adam Tas Corridor ’, an area identified in the Stellenbosch Spatial Development Framework as suitable for development and offering the opportunity to increase residential accommodation within the town of Stellenbosch without negatively impacting agricultural land , natural areas , or historically significant precincts . The Adam Tas corridor is envisioned as a new linear neighbourhood in Stellenbosch , adjacent to and at times traversing Adam Tas Road , the R44 , and the railway line . The corridor is intended to be multifunctional , diverse , dense , and pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly .
The design combines modern architectural elements with the town ’ s distinctive cultural heritage and vernacular
