Architecture Roelof Rabe Architects were initially tasked with upgrading and revitalising the ageing 14,500m 2 research facility of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences , commonly referred to as the Fisan Building . The project required accommodating both present and anticipated growth , necessitating the addition of a substantial 16,000m 2 to the existing structure . The ultimate objective was to create a seamlessly integrated ,
state-of-the-art facility . In December 2020 , Phase 1 - the new building - was completed , Phase 2 in mid-2021 , and finally the Phase 3 refurbishments , were completed in January 2023 .
