The Quarter is situated in vibrant De Waterkant , which lies on the periphery of Cape Town ’ s CBD , Waterfront and Atlantic Seaboard . Traditionally a small-scale heritage area with easy access to the central business district , a number of developments have sprung up over the years with land value dictating the need to densify and maximise sites as much as possible .

Developed by Signatura and Quenet Properties , The Quarter was built on a unique position which borders , but is excluded from , the surrounding heritage area . With rights to build up to 25m high , it was designed as an extension to the existing Media Quarter building , which was completed by the EHH Architects in 2012 , where advertising firm M & C Saatchi Abel and Heart FM are located .
The site proved challenging with the main road running along the site being quite steep , as well as needing to accommodate specific council requirements due to various servitudes being registered in favour of the city and neighbouring properties .
Client Brief Over the course of 6 years , multiple briefs were explored in the early stages of the project , with schemes varying from purely commercial , educational , residential , and even just stand-alone parking . Eventually development partners , Nedbank , Folkes , Quenet Corporate Property and Signatura were brought together to create the preferred scheme for an upmarket residential development with minor retail .
An important part of the city ’ s requirement was to activate the street edge ; this was achieved by including a retail unit at street level and strategically placing the residential lobby on the street corner .
With the new building sharing a street façade with the existing Media Quarter building , it was important to keep a continuation in materials and colour scheme .
