by the architectural team which converts the
lower raked ceiling foyer into a learning space
by making use of information panels that
display scientific milestones and pioneers
throughout time.
The planning and layout was arranged
symmetrically with the layout of the auditorium
as the ‘leader’ of the science lab and office
layouts.
The
administration
component
consists of an open plan office with surrounding
boardrooms and kitchen facilities that are
directly linked to the foyer. The foyer is openended which serves as a link to the courtyard
and outdoor amphitheatre.
Grantleigh TLC
The building is perceived differently as
one navigates around the building with an
experience that is always relational from various
viewpoints as it cannot be experienced as an
absolute whole.
The main building
consists of two science
laboratories, 144 seat
raked auditorium,
teachers office, and
a boardroom
Conclusion
The building was completed in August 2012.
It was recently awarded an Architectural
Category Commendation Certificate from the
South African Institute of Steel Construction,
congratulating the whole building team on work
well done.
