F
looring is the third dimension of architecture on which
we literally stand and underwrites all interior design. As
the large designable area that forms the base on which
we enjoy more direct contact than any other surface, flooring
plays a premium role in characterising a space. It influences
our sense of touch and feelings due to the overall impression
it creates, whilst serving practical purposes such as insulation
and acoustics.
Architect & Builder takes a closer look
Belgotex Floors were chosen to cover insurance giant Santam’s
new head office floors in Cape Town.
Two versatile product ranges– namely NexBac Hercules
carpet tiles and Hartsfield luxury vinyl tiles were specified by
Inhouse Brand Architects. Both ranges are trusted for their
superior performance and outstanding durability against all
risks typically encountered in a heavy commercial application.
The interchangeable, hardwearing NexBac Hercules carpet
tiles were used for the open plan call centre, while warm, waterresistant Hartsfield luxury vinyl tiles form the foundation of the
busy canteen.
Two different flooring types were used to demarcate different
zones, subtley changing the rhythm between working and chill
zones whilst achieving acoustic harmony.
Colour blocking and accents of yellow was also effectively
utilised to infuse energy and reflect Santam’s corporate identity.
Carpets insulate acoustically, ideal for busy telesales
environments or to dampen noise in open plan areas. The
striking geometric design created in Santam’s open plan office
was achieved by installing three contemporary colourways of
NexBac Hercules carpet tiles in a tessellated pattern (at right
angles to each other.) This not only breaks up a large expanse
with a modern, textured design but also effectively hides soiling.
100% Stainproof Miracle Fibre ensures that stains or marks can
easily be removed while worn tiles can easily be replaced with
minimal disruption.
Hartsfield luxury vinyl tiles’ convenient plank format is simply
stuck down to form a sleek, sophisticated surface. The natural
wooden tones add an organic touch with an anti-bacterial,
durable wear layer that is scratch- and water-resistant. Vinyl
is warm and quiet, ideal for wet areas such as kitchens or
bathrooms and is quick and easy to clean. The sleek, smooth
surface also facilitates movement – adding to the quick turnover
of feet through the canteen.
