Matco
‘You never get a second chance to make a good first impression’
is a statement that Matco firmly stands by. And so it should do.
M
atco, based in Johannesburg,
is one of South Africa’s leading
commercial entrance matting
manufacturers and suppliers, and a
long-established name that has been
associated
with
many
prestigious
architectural projects, not least in the
glamorous Sandton district.
Matco, a company that has been
owned and managed by generations
of the Bertz family, recently entered
an exciting new phase as it became
part of the globally successful COBA
International group. Like Matco, COBA
has a long and exemplary pedigree in
the matting business, with state-ofthe-art manufacturing and distribution
facilities in Europe and in Cape Town,
South Africa. While Matco now has
access to exceptional resources which
will only enhance its product offering,
the company remains unchanged with

Managing Director, Nicole Herron (whose
father started the Matco business nearly
40 years ago) still at the helm, with all the
same familiar faces.
“It really is business as usual,” says
Nicole Herron, “but naturally, we are very
excited about this new development,
and to be part of the COBA International
group. United, we make a very dynamic
team with some excellent opportunities
for new product development in the
entrance matting sector which will only
benefit our customers.”
Business as usual for Matco involves
supplying entrance matting for installation in a wide variety of new build
and refurbishment projects, across the
length and breadth of South Africa.
From small private businesses, schools
and restaurants, to stylish hotels,
convention centres, airport passenger
terminals, shopping centres and some
of architecture’s most celebrated office
structures, Matco has covered it all!
Taking the area of Sandton as an
example, Matco’s entrance matting can be
seen across the district in prime skyscraper
office properties such as those located to
the west on Alice Lane, in Fredman Towers
in the heart of Sandton and to the north
on Grayston Drive. Matco’s Trio Scraper
entrance matting has been supplied and
installed in the Atrium on 5th, now one of
the most influential commercial addresses
in Gauteng following Liberty and Pareto’s
dramatic reinvention of the iconic Sandton
Twin Towers office complex.
Trio Scraper matting has also been
installed in the stylish Sandton City
Shopping Centre, managed by Liberty
Properties. The list of ‘Matco installations’
in Sandton rolls on to include the twelvestorey Convention Centre where Super
Scraper takes pride of place in the main
