DAINFERN SQUARE,
PHASE 1, FOURWAYS
Construction of Dainfern Square
(previously known as Maroun
Square Shopping Centre) has just
begun on the corner of William
Nicol and Broadacres Drive,
Fourways, Gauteng.
This is phase one of a new
neighbourhood shopping centre
and offices and scope of works will
include bulk earthworks, basement
parking and associated site work
and is approximately 23,000m2.
The new shopping centre will have
two basement parking levels and
office space. Anchor tenants will be
Pick n Pay and Woolworths.
THE TOWERS, CAPE TOWN
The Towers is a total refurbishment of
the two 1970’s blocks known as Merriman
Square. The 10 and 20 storey towers will
receive a full over cladding solution in a
double glazed unitized curtain wall. The
current 45º splayed corners are designed
as a bird’s mouth detail with the remainder
of the façades receiving a new glazed
skin that is articulated with a horizontal
fin detail. The fins form a pattern that
references the Cape’s natural features.
Each of the 6 prominent façades reference
a specific feature: the maps of False Bay,
Robben Island, Cape Point or the profiles
of Devils Peak, Table Mountain, Lions Head
and Signal Hill. The edges of the fins will be
accentuated at night by an LED strip light to
accentuate the subtle landscape profiles. The
façade refurbishment comprise ±22,000m2
of new façades. The refurbishment also
involves the total reimagining of the ground
floor retail, including the street level
canopies and landscaping. The project will
also provide for an increase in the number
of parking bays by inserting a multi-level
parking garage between the two towers.
The parking garage is to be designed by
Smuts and Boyes.
