BEKA Schréder Provides LED Street Lighting for Main Street in Naledi B EKA Schréder’s LEDlume-midi 117W streetlight luminaires provide the lighting for the main street of Naledi (formerly known as Vryburg) in the North West Province. Market Street is one of the busiest routes towards the Northern Cape’s N14 highway. In order to comply with the SANS standards and provide an energy saving solution, BEKA Schréder was awarded the contract to replace the existing 250W HPS luminaires with the LEDlume-midi 117W LED luminaires. The BEKA LEDlume-midi was chosen not only for its ability to maintain the correct lighting level, but also for its modern aesthetical appearance. The BEKA LEDlume-midi is designed and manufactured in South Africa, thus taking Africa’s environments and conditions into account. This is evident in 48 LEDlume-midi luminaires illuminate Naledi’s main street the luminaire’s design. A unique thermal sensor technique monitors the temperature of the LEDs on the printed circuit boards (PCBs). Once a critical temperature is reached, which could harm the lifetime of the LEDs, the current is reduced to ensure safe operating temperatures of the LEDs. This safeguards the LEDs and ensures that the long lifetime of up to 100,000 hours (L70), as envisaged by the LED manufacturer Osram, is achieved. The slim, aesthetical design is optimised for LED characteristics. The BEKA LEDlume-midi is designed to replace conventional HID and CFL streetlight luminaires. BEKA Schréder’s products were chosen by the professional team for their quality and reliability, as well as BEKA Schréder’s ability to provide complete solutions, taking total cost of ownership into account. Motla Consulting Engineers based in Klerksdorp were responsible for the successful management and execution of this project. BEKA is proud of its partnership with Motla Consulting Engineers (Klerksdorp) and Naledi Local Municipality’s Infrastructure Department (Electrical), and its association with this project.
