Oggie Flooring Works With Giant Leap The Mary Oppenheimer & Daughters offices are located in the Conservatory on Baker Building and are perfectly positioned in a contemporary building that soaks up Rosebank’s lifestyle vibe and are designed to soak up the best of the light and city views from the top floors. M ary Oppenheimer & Daughters approached Giant Leap to design a working environment for their family offices. The design brief was to create space that is light and airy and had a feeling of home. As the family is steeped in tradition they wanted a classical interior with the modernism of an office of today. The major task of the design team was to mix the two styles of Classic and Modern. The approach was to keep the structural elements in a classical language to a large extent, so use was made of high skirting, dado rails, elaborate cornicing and a few panelled cupboards. The designers chose the Versailles Panels in FSC Europoean Oak from Oggie Flooring due to the intricate woodwork of the panels which are actualy a replica of panels from Versailles and the fact that they added a classical element that tied in beautifully with the client’s antique furniture. By using a different finish on the floor – Woca Denmark Diamond oil in Extra White - they were able to make the wood look more contemporary in keeping with the clean lines of the overall office design. The same Versailles Panels were used on the walls and ceilings in some areas of the offices. The designers had access to a huge selection of beautiful antique furniture which they could then add on to to blend with the working side of the office by taking some bespoke pieces and combining them with more modern and flexible office furniture. By using a classic style in the structural elements Giant Leap managed to offset this with the more modern lines of the glass façades and a few bright walls with fantastic modern wall paper in the meeting rooms. The rest of the office space was kept as neutral as possible and the walls are kept open to showcase some of the family’s extensive art collection. Mary Slack curated the pieces which brought in a modern flair and bright colours to each room. www.giantleap.co.za www.oggieflooring.com VIDEO: Giant Leap Superior interiors tells us why they chose their oggie finishes on the floor, ceiling and wall.
