with good visibility to the showrooms on the lower levels, and a dark, shaded performance glass with a lower visible light transmission to create more privacy for the offices on the upper levels. The dark, shaded glass was specified for its ability to control natural daylight and glare. On the southern façade, where daylight glare is not a problem, a low energy clear glass was selected. A LED strip light detail below the step in the façade was used to emphasise the bold shape of the façade, drawing attention to the showrooms in the evenings and adding the finishing touch. The clean lines of the concrete roofs and LED strip lights follow to the façade lines and further enhance the strong form of the building. The parking structure was clad with a perforated steel screen which was designed to soften the rigid, concrete structure and encapsulate it. By picking up the façade lines it gently ties the parking structure in with the rest of the building. With regards to the interior, the client’s high expectation of quality and excellence was one of the main driving forces behind the high-end, quality 92 Rivonia Road interior materials. These were carefully selected to create elegant, grand interior spaces. The internal palette of high-end, quality finishes consisted of a variety of marble and natural timber wall cladding along with imported Italian floor tiles. The design was finished off with lighting strips and recessed timber panelling in the ceilings. The external finishes consist of durable, low- maintenance finishes, whilst upholding the same calibre as the interior palette. Natural grey tones of granite were selected for the walkways and wall cladding. A combination of grey pavers with different textures were also selected, as well as a deep reddish-brown pavers to add some warmth. With the assistance of The Ochre Office, the landscaping was designed with indigenous planting pockets that soften the hard sidewalk surfaces and create inviting pause areas for passing pedestrians. Planters with fever trees and soft vegetation, along with custom-made concrete benches that create pedestrian-friendly rest zones, were designed and placed to accentuate strong views to the showrooms. 27
