3D SCANNING TECHNOLOGY ASSISTS ARCHITECTS
Outline is a building measurement company that specialises in capturing the built form
in its entirety and extracting the most value out of a building. They use state-of-the-art 3D
scanners to eliminate human error and to measure a building more efficiently and precisely
than ever before.
Built-in technology allows the scanner to recognise similar forms and shapes as it moves
from position to position, stitching the various scans together in what is known as a 3D point
cloud. A 3D point cloud is set of data points (place markers) in space. The points represent the
surfaces of actual objects and the surrounding environment with a high degree of accuracy.

Outline registers and imports the 3D data into their drawing and modelling software
programmes in order to produce clean and precise measured drawings and models for

drawing package which includes joinery, furniture, electrical, ceiling, lighting and building
service layouts.
Facilities Management
Property owners are increasingly under pressure to reduce their monthly overheads, maximise
returns and manage their buildings/assets as effectively as possible. Outline provides a
service whereby they verify the exact rentable (GLA) areas by utilising scanning technology
and applying the latest SAPOA building measurement guidelines. They have found rentable
(GLA) areas to increase by as much as 8% just by taking a closer look at what actually exists.
Outline provide a signed lease area certificate (LAC) for both Property owners and
tenants on completion of the scanning and remeasurement process. This is to prevent any
dispute between landlord & tenant and signifies the true rentable income the building is
able to produce.
