INTERIORWATCH THE LATEST NEWS AND PRODUCTS FROM THE COMMERCIAL INTERIOR INDUSTRY NEWSWORTHY NANDO’S HOT YOUNG DESIGNER SEARCH The third edition of Nando’s Hot Young Designer Talent Search is focused on a design element that has become strikingly relevant in the time of COVID-19 – restaurant waiting benches. This initiative opens doors for undiscovered young South African design talent to join the Nando’s heartfelt celebration of local design. Entrants respond to a design brief and submit designs that are potentially included on the Nando’s Portal to Africa procurement platform. This year, as Nando’s looks at how restaurant design will change in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, they are asking designers to examine the waiting benches you find at every Nando’s restaurant. Nandos is asking what these benches should look like in the age of social distancing, and whether they can be easily adapted once we can safely sit together again. They are calling on all aspiring furniture designers to design a show-stopping bench, a reminder of the resilience of the African spirit, and a celebration of Southern Africa’s ever-evolving and eclectic design aesthetic. Applications close at midnight on 31 July 2020. www.clout-sadesign.co.za/nandos-hyd-2020 NEW FURNITURE AND LIGHTING RANGE With a background in Fine Art, innovative designer, Greg Marshall, has always been passionate about design. He does all of his own sketches freehand, producing beautifully detailed drawings, “I like to do some things old school,” said Greg. For Greg, a vital and exciting aspect of what he does is the technical side of developing a product, ensuring both a sound and aesthetically pleasing outcome. “I love solving problems, and coming up with innovative ways of doing things, constantly striving to improve on the design of an item. There is nothing I like more than spending the day in a factory, going over the technical aspects of bringing a product to life”. With more than 20 years of experience in the design industry (most of which have been spent as an entrepreneur), Greg has a vast knowledge of many different areas of the interior industry at large. Specialising in custom design for most of his career, he has decided to finally put his myriad of ideas into production; launching his new furniture and lighting range.
