T
he brief from Investec Property was to create new P-grade commercial offices in
Sandton. Due to its prominent positioning along Grayston Drive the design of the
building needed to make a visual statement that accentuated this important address.
Several colour schemes were presented to the client and the decision was taken to
proceed with the darker scheme due to its striking colouring heightened by the faceted
angles of the façade.
Design
The new offices of Shanduka Foundation and McDonalds, located on 85 Grayston Drive
Sandton, is a striking multi-faceted building that sits prominently on the northern side of
Grayston Drive, creating a highly visible landmark from all approaches.
The residential building to the east is recessed from the building line and to the west
the site is bounded by Stan Road, which makes 85 Grayston easily discernible from all
approaches. This unique development offers the perfect combination of a highly public
office with a connection to the street and a peaceful elevated urban refuge. Elevated green
landscaped terraces create a calm respite for users of the building.
Pedestrians gain entry through the double volume street level lobby and are transported
up 4 levels into the main multi-volume atrium. The building has seven levels of offices and
6 levels of parkades. Vehicular entrance is provided from Stan Road, away from the busy
Grayston Drive.
