TROPICANA , SEA POINT
Developed by Signatura , Tropicana is an apartment hotel commencing construction in Kloof Road , Sea Point , adjacent to the old Fire Station . The 54 apartments range from 25m 2 bachelor studios to 39m 2 1-bedroom suites .
Tropicana has both heritage and planning approval , but is not for sale , something which has allowed the architects to push the envelope with an edgier , more innovative design . Whilst the apartments are not for sale , design enthusiasts will at least be able to book a few stylish and memorable nights there .
Whereas off-plan sectional title developments often have to err on the side of the ordinary , “ could I live with that colour ?” hospitality offerings must step out of the proverbial box and provide something edgier and more memorable , as guests often want to take a break from their own lives .
By carefully collaborating with Heritage Consultant Ashley Lillie , Architects Robert Silke & Partners have attempted a seaside building that is responsive and respectful to the immediate environment and aims to be at least as characterful as the properties that surround it . The design is original , theatrical and sculptural , yet still contains the DNA of its Art Deco and Streamline Style Moderne neighbours . Furniture is by Dokter & Misses .
ON PARK , CENTURY CITY
On Park , is the second apartment block nestled between Century Boulevard and Ratanga Park at Century City . On Park will consist of 121 apartments , which includes several studios , one-bedroom and two-bedroom units . The top floor boasts penthouses with panoramic views over the park and towards Cape Town ’ s CBD and Table Mountain .
On Park is an iconic circular pavilion building set in a park environment that has a sculptural , organic and soft shape that blends into the natural landscape ,” explains Mariska Auret , Director at Rabie Property Group . “ The circular form of the building provides an edge to Ratanga Park , while at the same time protecting view lines from Century Boulevard to the park , inviting the public into the park space . It ’ s unique shape also provides equal wide angled views to the apartments . Your views range from overlooking the Overberg mountains in the distance , Table Mountain , and the park , all the way over Century City ’ s lights and Tygerberg . The inwardly facing apartments enjoy views down into the designed green circular courtyard .”
On Park will feature sustainable design aimed at EDGE certification which includes green energy initiatives , sustainable water solutions such as recycled effluent for irrigation , reduced utility costs and water-wise landscaping . Building features include full back-up power to all common areas and all apartments , which means that load shedding will not affect residents . Every apartment also has pre-installed fibre .
