Materiality The existing building envelope of facebrick and metal sheeting was retained , but the external façades were modulated and softened . The brick of the public entrance façade is offset by charcoal coloured aluminium clad boxes . The largest box frames the entrance , while smaller ones on either side frame the donor centre windows and the restaurant outdoor seating area . A glass canopy shelters the walkway in front of the entrance and restaurant . Glass doors and windows bring
natural light into all the public spaces and provide connections , both physically and visually , to the outside .
The staff entrance incorporates the charcoal greys and warm red brick of the main entrance but here verdant creepers break the expanse of brickwork . The melding of soft and hard landscaping continues through the staff team building area around the back , where an amphitheatre hugs a labyrinth of pavers spiralling through planted beds , with a solitary tree at its centre .
