Rabie Property Group recently completed construction of Sable Corner , adding another premier office address to the flourishing Bridgeways Precinct at Century City . Designed by dhk , Sable Corner features a distinctive curved façade facing Sable Road , with some design elements , such as its vertical fins , drawing parallels with its neighbour , Sable Park .
Client Brief The brief from the client emphasised the need for an office building - with retail potential on ground floor - that would match the high caliber of the surrounding buildings located in the Bridgeways Precinct . A building that maximised not only the potential rentable area of the site , but its unique corner shape and views . Functionally the space needed to allow for flexible subdivisions for numerous potential tenants both within the building as well as on the same floor .
Design Rising five floors above two basement parking levels , Sable Corner continues along Sable Road , maximising its exposure and ensuring uninterrupted views towards Table Mountain and the city . The building was conceptualised around highlighting the site ’ s aspect in two merged forms - a curved element and a punctured box .
Serviced by a scenic central circulation stair , the functional heart of the building lies in the rear overlapping box and curved forms , allowing these spaces to be accessed and divided up separately as need be . The curved , finned curtain wall serves as the feature element of the design . It is well contrasted by the solidity and texture of the painted facebrick box element , which allows the curve to shine . A fully glazed circulation staircase
