EASTERN CAPE RETAIL DEVELOPMENTS
Rural retail specialists , McCormick Property Development ( MPD ), are expanding their footprint in the Eastern Cape . The company has commenced construction on two sites that will complement their retail offering in the province . MPD broke ground at Flagstaff Square in September with opening planned for the final quarter of 2021 . Twelve years in the making , Flagstaff Square will be a double level mall anchored by Shoprite and Roots Butchery . “ Flagstaff Square epitomises the new standard of rural retail that our developments have evolved into ,” explains CEO of MPD , Jason McCormick . “ Working together with our local partners , Emayapondo Properties , we will bring quality retail to those that deserve it most and completely transform the retail landscape of the area . Our goal for almost 40 years has been to provide quality , affordable retail opportunities to communities that previously had no access to it . Flagstaff Square will deliver exactly that .” Development also recently commenced on Mt Frere Mall in Mt Frere . This development is in partnership with AJ Property Holdings and will include almost 20,000m 2 of leasable area in the first phase .
THE STERLING , KWAZULU-NATAL
Situated in the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal , The Sterling is the new mixed used development at the entrance of the new Sibaya Precinct and is in full view of commuters to and from EThekwini . The Sterling boasts 50-bed luxury apartments , a 100-key lifestyle hotel , hotel retail , off street eateries , luxury car showroom , convenience shopping and a 700-seater theatre . The developer , Africa Rising , envisaged a mixed-use development where residents , holiday guests and the public can inter-mingle and enjoy all amenities of the development . The ethos of the precinct is to be people centred ; hence the entire building , especially on street level , has an immense interaction with the streets .
Designed using off-shutter concrete and glass . the building is positioned between the bustle of the estate entrance , two boundaries of green belts and the main node of the estate . The building opens up to the street with various eateries . The show room facing the M4 is a live advertisement for selected fine luxury cars . A contemporary theatre design was requested by the developer and will stage orchestras and theatrical shows . The theatre also opens out onto large balconies for after show gatherings .
The orientation of the hotel is both east and west so the hotel room balconies are screened off by timber screens and vertical gardens . The Hotel accommodates deluxe suites and penthouse units , restaurants & bars , gym , courtyard pool and break-away spaces . The Hotel is linked to the theatre and all other amenities .
