Osborne , located conveniently at a prominent intersection in Claremont , Cape Town , faces Cavendish Square and boasts sweeping views from Constantiaberg to Table Mountain . It ’ s striking façade with dominant vertical lines has become a new landmark in the area .
Project Background Nigel Sedgwick and his business partner Patrick Hamilton Russell of Magma Property Group had attempted to acquire the site , which originally housed an apartment block , twenty years ago but faced challenges , including a defunct body corporate and a run-down building . At the time there wasn ’ t much appetite in attempting to migrate an apartment block out of sectional title and it wasn ’ t until some years later that an opportunity arose to navigate the incredibly long process of buying out the apartment owners . This process would not have been possible without the knowledge and determination of Bruce Burmeister of Bruce Burmeister Architects , who oversaw all the interaction with the Cape Town City Council .
After approximately three years of negotiations , all the apartment owners had been bought out and the process of rezoning the land was undertaken with the support of local councillors who saw the development of a new commercial building as an oppor-
