Ialways like to start the new year on a purely positive note and am glad I can see so much to feel upbeat about when it ’ s so easy to get bogged down in the doom and gloom of both local and international events .

We celebrate two anniversaries in this issue . Firstly , Whiteheads , a well known Cape Town company , celebrate 100 years of success in the painting and decorating industry . Whilst companies within the industry come and go , they have grown from strength to strength and I wish them all the best for the future .

Another milestone we celebrate is the 50th anniversary of Sandton City . As a child growing up in Johannesburg in the 70 ’ s and 80 ’ s some of the old photographs supplied for the article brought back so many memories and it was amazing to follow their journey through the years , evolving to remain one of the best retail destinations not just in South Africa but internationally . In what must be a pretty unique situation , MDS Architecture have been the architects for the centre since its inception , gaining an unbelievably valuable depth of knowledge into retail design throughout those decades . Congratulations to them .
