Happy New Year to you all . On behalf of everyone at Architect and Builder Magazine I wish you a successful business year .
As we learn to live with Covid-19 and hopefully see the pandemic become endemic , we need to consider how different our work lives have been over the last two years and what the ‘ new normal ’ will look like going forward .
As we have been forced into our home offices , many people have realised the benefits and practicality of working from home . I agree there are benefits , but I don ’ t believe Zoom meetings can ever make up for the creative energy and camaraderie that is experienced in an office enviroment . For the foreseeable future our work week will most likely consist of a hybrid combination of home and office working . Is it practical to implement long term ? Has Covid-19 changed the way we work forever ? I believe it will have a lasting impact and this will effect development and design decisions for new commercial buildings going forward .
But with challenge comes innovation which could also see our built environment change in exciting ways that factors in our living and working lives more holistically . I look forward to seeing what the next few years bring .
