The architectural concept emphasises the design and realisation of a building which is welcoming and accessible to all and which, by the provision of legible architectural design and transparent space planning( from arrival, through reception and security, and into well-lit, wellventilated and appropriately proportioned spaces), offers pleasant and desirable places to work, interact, and liaise, in partnership with a landscape approach which offers choice and variety to users.
Critically, the expression aims to create a building that expresses the Department’ s vision and ambitions and establish an architectural language appropriate to the work of Stats SA, the symbolism favoured by the Department, and the urban-edge context of the buildings and site. The architectural expression is modern but timeless, and marries the sleekness of international practice with the soulful rootedness of Africa.
