Distinctive Glazing Adds to Sasol ’ s Powerful Façade
C & C Safety Glass was started by Chris Esterhuyse and Carel Flemix in 2002 and their collective expertise spans an impressive 48 years . The organisation has one of the biggest architectural glass ranges of any glass processor in South Africa and is proud to have been awarded the glass supply on the prestigious Sasol Head Office .
The façades distinctive progressive design encapsulates the ethos of the oil giant and the shape of the building echoes the spherical shape of the Sasol logo . The new Sasol building has a powerful architectural form which needed an equally powerful façade to emphasise the building envelope . The vision glazing was selected for its performance parameters and its ability to reflect light and sky . The spandrel glass choice needed to feed into the overall reflective language , thus the selection of the bespoke silver back painted glass textured panel . The high spectral selectivity of the product meant that the vision glazing was able to be maximised , ensuring high levels of natural lighting into the offices , without compromising the necessary thermal performance of the façade .
The vision glazing comprises of more than 1,000 convex , concave curved and shaped , highly selective , Double Silver Low E coated Thermoshield Stopray Vision 36T reflective glass . As well as more than 1,000 convex , concave curved and shaped single glazing panels for the Spandrel glazing , a bespoke silver back painted textured glass , Safetyshield Krizet with Ipasol Chrome coating was also specified . The custom textured spandrel panel subtly reflects the light as it moves over the building , reinforcing the iconic and unique language of the building .
Due to C & C Safety Glass ’ s superior processing capability , two toughening furnaces are able to produce the largest curved double glazed units as well as the tightest curve .
