video footage provides a unique experience for customers waiting for the lifts. The three distinct courts and lift feature walls were not only created to enhance customer experience, but also to serve as landmarks for customers spatial cognition, to make wayfinding simpler.
In the end the design of the mall architecture and interiors is successful in that it complements the variety of retail offerings, creating a memorable and relaxed lifestyle experience for Table Bay Mall customers.
Sustainability The client and design team have taken sustainability measures as a principle of appropriate design. Energy efficient lighting( LED) and equipment have been utilised thought the projects. Smart metering and monitoring of energy systems is in place. Natural daylight has been incorporated in to the internal mall areas via extensive roof lights and at the same time these roof lights have not added a significant heat load to the building as solar protected glass has been used. The roof has been designed for future installations of solar panels. Recycling initiatives include wet waste sent to a bio plant instead of overloaded landfills, wet and dry compactors on site and onsite sorting of refuse from tenants.
Wet Services Designed by Aurecon, the Wet Services are an essential aspect of the Mall’ s sustainability focus. Three separate water sources are used- municipal supply, treated borehole water and storm water collected via the roof drainage system. The municipal supply is used to meet the potable water requirements of the building.
The borehole water is treated in an external plant to remove iron and manganese, and reticulated to the water closets and urinals in the building that require water for flushing. The storm water is filtered to remove any possible debris and supplements the borehole water storage. The alternative sources were incorporated into the design to reduce the potable water demand in the building and thus far has yielded a 50 % saving in potable water usage.
Water conscious sanitary fittings( for both potable and non-potable water) were also incorporated into the design of the building in an effort to further reduce the water usage of the building.
