• 5 x Laminar Flow theatres in the 10 theatre complex. Allowance made for 2 additional theatres, an additional Hybrid theatre as well as additional ICU beds.
• A dedicated Caesarean theatre within the labour ward fully developed as mini theatre complex.
• All ICU beds are provided with dialysis points.
• ICU isolation rooms are designed back to back with a sluice passage ensuring that no dirty waste is taken through the unit.
• All ICU beds are separated with glass partitioning to enhance infection control.
• All private rooms in normal wards are provided with negative pressure to enhance infection control.
• All wards are provided with 1, 2 and 3 bed rooms only and all rooms are en suite.
BUILDING DESIGN The building provides for clean modern lines with elements of glass, off-shutter concrete and aluminium features. The building had to cater for at least 900 parking bays, and given the fact that only two basements could be installed, the remainder of the parking had to be designed above ground. This posed a challenge in combining the accommodation needs with that of parking.
• Due to it being a CBD site, which limited the size of the building footprint, special attention was paid to the vertical circulation of people through the building. Ground and first floors were allocated to front of house, back of house, the Emergency unit, pharmacy, radiology, etc. With the majority of parking in between these
