NEWSWATCH THE LATEST NEWS AND PRODUCTS FROM THE BUILDING INDUSTRY MEDICLINIC MOVES INTO ITS NEW WORLD-CLASS STELLENBOSCH HOSPITAL NEWSWORTHY CONSTRUCTION NEARS COMPLETION AT DR PIXLEY KA ISAKA SEME MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Enza Construction is nearing completion of the R3 billion Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital in KwaMashu, which is scheduled to open its doors by December 2019. Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Memorial Hospital is the largest hospital currently in development in South Africa and once completed will also be amongst the largest public healthcare facilities in the country. The development of the 65,000m 2 500-bed regional hospital forms Mediclinic has started operating from brand-new, world-class medical facilities in Stellenbosch; purpose-built for the private hospital group by Atterbury and its partners to serve the growing medical demands of the Winelands. Atterbury began the development in May 2017 and delivered the new 16,000m 2 Mediclinic hospital in Stellenbosch in March this year. The hospital began operating from its new home from 1 June. Atterbury Western Cape Development Manager, Gerrit van den Berg, says: “We are ecstatic to have delivered a modern, sustainable health care facility that supports Mediclinic in bringing even more of the best available care to this community for years to come.” The eco-friendly building was designed by TV3 Architects and Town Planners to inspire wellness. It enjoys plentiful soothing natural light and is water efficient thanks to a grey water system, water harvesting and its drought-resistant gardens require minimal irrigation. It’s an aesthetically pleasing building that blends in perfectly with the beautiful surrounding area. Besides the hospital’s state- of-the-art facilities developed to Mediclinic’s specifications, its design and décor features reflect its unique location in Stellenbosch, and restorative views of the town are revealed through its windows. It houses over 100 beds, a 24-hour emergency centre, five theatres, reception, gardens, coffee shop, and a pharmacy. Its departments cover general surgery, medical patients, ophthalmology, urology, ICU, general theatres, radiology as well as a day clinic. Its second phase, due for completion at the end of July, includes gynaecology, maternity, paediatrics and obstetrics. www.atterbury.co.za part of the KwaZulu-Natal Dept. of Health Hospital Revitalisation Programme - a project that is instrumental in providing much needed health facilities through- out South Africa, and will service 1.5 million people living in KwaMashu, Inanda, Ntuzuma and surrounding communities. Construction of the hospital included 42,000m² of concrete; 136,000m² formwork, including post tension, coffer and flat slabs; 5,300 tons reinforcement; and 35,000m² of vinyl laid on 2mm self- levelling screed.
