partments on William is an exciting new student accommodation development
situated in Brooklyn, Pretoria and developed for the market by Caliber Properties.
A full professional team was involved in the planning and execution of the project
and Tri-Star Construction was the main contractor.
Client’s Brief
The brief to Deon vd Westhuizen Architects was to properly study and address the
realities and challenges related to the need for and costs involved in higher education,
especially with regards to student accommodation, as is relevant in the South Africa
of today. Design solutions were to be provided for a modern, practical, sustainable and
unique student accommodation building that can be rented out to students at affordable
prices. The building was to meet the client’s expectations and be developed within their
budget and time parameters.
Location
Apartments on William is situated on the south-eastern corner of Lynnwood Road and
William Street, Brooklyn, almost directly opposite the main entrance to the University
of Pretoria, making the location ideal for such a project. William Street is closed off for
traffic at its intersection with Lynnwood Road. This feature was used to the advantage
of the building and incorporated in the design thereof.
