technology, experience and service delivery
on the Cummins SA project and also on the
philosophy of the company. All of which
impacted on the success of the project.
Technology
“Having being awarded the contract in
2018, we have successfully completed
the Category 6 Panduit Data Cabling
infrastructure complete with all of the
associated components in the newly
built Cummins SA building. The speci-
fications called for the installation of a
Panduit Category 6 UTP structured cabling
system to cater for their voice, data and
security requirements. More than 40km
of Category 6 UTP cable with associated
patch panels, patch cords, fly leads and
associated components was required for
the 750 data points.”
Mark went on to explain that, “It is
most important that the correct standards
are adhered to from day one, as generally,
routes and ceilings are closed as soon as
we finish our first fix. Mistakes would
require routes to be re-opened which is
costly and the knock-on effect could have
a negative impact on the project.”
“Once the entire project had been com-
pleted and the labelling, certification and
documentation had been done, the OEM
inspected the site and documentation,
after which the extended warranty was
issued. The installation should function
without any failures for many years as long
as there is no physical abuse”.
Working with Contractors
“Over the years, we have had many oppor-
tunities to work alongside the same
teams, and on a site like this, we find that
the contractors understand each other, and
everyone knows what the expectations
are. We respect each other’s space as
we know that there is a deadline on the
main contractor from the developer and
an expectation on each of us to deliver.”
Consistency
Mark continued to explain the importance
of consistency. “We have been in
existence since 1981 and we have staff
with more than 30 years service. The
IT industry is small and service is the
name of the game. Although we may
face challenges, it’s about how they are
proactively resolved that’s important, even
if there is an associated cost.”
