AC Hotel by Marriott Interiors Erected proudly in the heart of Cape Town harbour and firmly placed on the doorstep of the inner city hub, the hotel is privy to spectacular harbour views, the breakwater experience and the buzz from the multi-cultural city. Employing the AC brand as the foundation for the design, local interior design firm, Source Interior Brand Architecture, combined these three local experiences in selecting small features to compliment and localise the first ever AC Hotel by Marriott on the African continent. The AC concept is the ‘tightest’ with regards to design direction, which means that the design was controlled very strictly by a set of design guidelines. The brand design concept was designed by legendary designer Antonio Citterio and has remained true to the 90’s Spanish modernism of the original design. Designed to remove the friction and discord of travel, AC Hotels offer guests a seamless and tranquil experience. The design is current but never trendy, cultivating the optimism and perpetual forward progress of contemporary urban life. The design applies the values of purposefullness, simplicity and elegance and a European modern aesthetic. Achieving clean, simple design means restraint, leaving space to exhale and simplify the guest journey. Lightly toned materials, combined and balanced correctly, create subtle contrasts that are pleasant to the eye and brighten the space. The design focuses more on surface applications and detailed styling rather large impressive artwork. All artworks included are ‘décor art’ pieces rather than significant art pieces. The Yacht Club Conclusion James Wilson, CEO of the Amdec Group, said “It is our ambition to change the face of city life and raise the profile of residential and commercial property in the Cape Town CBD. We believe that a development such as The Yacht Club helps to elevate the city’s status as a world- class investment destination and a highly sought-after place to visit and live.” 71
