When the innovative global healthcare company Sanofi relocated their head office in Johannesburg , South Africa they wished to use the opportunity to fully embrace new ways of working . The workspace needed to reflect the Sanofi strategy of Play to Win and encourage employees to return to work for connection , collaboration and ideation .
The resulting 1,600m 2 office is designed to encourage user mobility and promotes the interactive use of various types of work and collaboration spaces . “ Our previous space with smaller individual offices drove a silo impact in the organisation . We wanted to fundamentally change ; for collaboration , for engaging , for transformation and for innovation .” says Merilynn Steenkamp , General Manager , Sanofi , South Africa .
The extensive curve of the building with floor to ceiling windows offers incredible fifth floor views over the city to the distant Magaliesburg hills . This feature inspired the design of a central meeting space and co-working lounge . Dedicated spaces for individual work or calls sit alongside informal small meeting furniture clusters . The space is a signature place of energy and conversation behind a crafted reception desk and artwork curtain made from recycled glass by the artist Stephen Pikus .
