how any could be reused , hence reducing project cost and the impact of more building materials .
The design solution that was agreed involved retaining one smaller warehouse and office block , building a new , state-of-the-art warehoused packaging and distribution facility ( with its ancillary office component ) and a new head office administration building .
There was an existing office building on the new stand that was too big and the design and layout did not suit Fuchs ’ s business structures . GPD Studio decided to demolish the existing envelope down to its concrete frame and then rebuild a new facility around the remaining skeleton .
Design Concept The design concept evolved from the building elements that remained from the site clearance project . The architects created a materials legend of precast concrete , face brick , profiled sheeting , glass and structural steel to guide the campus aesthetic .
These materials and a strong emphasis on energy efficient design ideas were used to compose the final aesthetic . The head office building had the constraints of the existing concrete grid spacings , within which the designers sought to balance glazed widows for maximum daylight and external views , whilst ensuring
