NKOSI CITY , NEAR MBOMBELA
Nkosi City , which has been thirteen years in the making , was announced as Mpumalanga ’ s new city by the Honourable Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane , the Premier of Mpumalanga , in her State of the Province Address and it was also approved and prioritised for execution by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government .
Nkosi City is an R8 billion modern , green city , situated near Daantjie and Pienaar , on the Kruger National Park border . It had been captured in the Integrated Development Plan of the City of Mbombela since 2010 and it is now fully in it ’ s execution phase . It has also been assigned the elevated status of Catalytic Project by the Department of Human Settlements . The land for Nkosi City , 968 hectares in total , was donated to the community by Government and recently transferred to the development company for execution of Nkosi City over the next six years .
Nkosi City is being developed by the community , represented by the Nkosi City Communal Property Association , in equal partnership with Dovetail Properties , a development company which focuses on developments which uplift impoverished communities . Nkosi City does just that ; creating roughly 15,000 job opportunities and according to the City of Mbombela , impacts on roughly 120,000 households .
According to Philip Kleijnhans , Director of Dovetail Properties , Nkosi City is an Agri-City , with small scale farming land parcels next to the BNG ( Breaking New Ground or RDP Housing ) which was integrated into the urban design from the outset and intended to create jobs for the unemployed women and
youth in the area . The initial feasibility studies showed that this farming component of Nkosi City can potentially generate an income of over R300 million for these communities over the first three years .
Nkosi City is planned to include almost 4,000 housing units , a regional retail centre of 50,000m 2 , a value centre , filling station and fitment centre , a hospital and clinic , emergency services and police station and mixed-use commercial buildings ( roughly 70,000m 2 of Commercial land parcels ). It will not only be a CBD for the region , but also an agricultural hub for Macadamia , citrus and cash crops .
The developers will now start to engage with potential financiers and specialist developers for the numerous and diverse development opportunities that Nkosi City has to offer , commencing with the Central Business District which falls under Phase 1 of 6 , which will be developed over the next 5 to 6 years .
NINE PALMS , CENTURY CITY
Rabie recently launched Nine Palms , a new apartment development on the banks of Ratanga Park in Century City .
