LA CONCORDE , PAARL
Located on the historic Concordia Farm , the La Concorde Building — more well-known as the KWV Building — stands as a testament to architectural elegance in Paarl , Western Cape . Originally constructed in 1958 as KWV ’ s Head Offices , this iconic structure features distinctive gables and textured white plasterwork , emblematic of the region ’ s rich architectural heritage . With its stately façade and elongated window openings , La Concorde has been a landmark , symbolising the Boland wine industry ’ s legacy .
In an exciting move towards revitalisation , GIFLO has worked with GASS Architecture Studios to transform the existing building into a commercial hub . Their vision also includes the development of two new four-storey commercial buildings , set to rise next to this architectural grande dame . This development , which will replace the derelict recreational complex , aims to enhance the area while respecting the historical significance of the existing structure . The new buildings will feature façades that reference La Concorde ’ s proportions , fenestration , and textured façades .
Central to the design is a landscaped plaza that will serve as the heart of the development . This green space , lined with mature trees , creates a vital connection between old and new , encouraging interaction . The careful positioning of the new structures ensures they remain lower than the existing building , preserving sightlines and enhancing the surrounding landscape .
As Paarl continues to evolve , these new buildings promise to celebrate the legacy of La Concorde while paving the way for future growth and vibrancy in the heart of the Cape Winelands .
55 EASTWOOD , OXFORD PARKS , ROSEBANK
As part of Phase 2 of the Oxford Parks precinct by Intaprop , 55 Eastwood represents the next step in the evolution of Johannesburg ’ s rapidly developing Rosebank district . Designed by GLH Architects , the building will contribute to area ’ s urban transformation towards a commercial centre with the highest standard of construction and technology . This four-storey office is designed to accommodate a variety of business and retail tenants , fostering an integrated and dynamic work environment . A shared underground parking facility serves all of Phase 2 , following the approach used in Phase 1 . This design frees up the ground floor , enhancing pedestrian flow and accessibility .
Architecturally , the building complements the neighbouring 10 Parks Boulevard development , also by Intaprop . Soft curves at opposing corners soften the approach towards Phase 2 by guiding movement through the public piazza . Inward-facing terraces provide tenants with exclusive outdoor spaces while maintaining a connection to the greater precinct .
Like 10 Parks , the façade features a vertical arrangement of solid aluminium composite panels and high-performance glazing . However , unlike 10 Parks , 55 Eastwood employs a uniform silver aluminium and paint finish , giving it a distinct , cohesive appearance . As a relatively smaller building , this design approach enhances its visual interplay with 10 Parks , contrasting its intersecting bi-tonal aesthetic .
The building is designed to meet the highest environmental standards and aims for a 6-star Green Star rating , underscoring GLH and Intaprop ’ s commitment to sustainable development .
