KRASI STRENGTHENS ITS OFFER ON PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION
Krasi Fire Protection has become a licensed installer of Promat’ s Durasteel system, expanding its capabilities in passive fire protection across industrial, healthcare, residential and transport projects.
The Coventry-based specialist has trained most of its experienced workforce at Promat’ s premises, achieving Registered Installer status. It is the first installer appointed outside London, strengthening its ability to serve clients across the Midlands, the North and beyond.
Following strong interest at the Fire Safety Exhibition at the NEC, Krasi is targeting specifiers, fire engineers and contractors in power generation, infrastructure, defence and chemical manufacturing.
Durasteel combines fibre-cement panels with galvanised steel sheets, delivering up to four hours of fire resistance alongside blast and impact protection. Tested against hydrocarbon and jet fires, it can withstand overpressure up to 2.7 bar and impacts of up to 3,000 joules.
Its lightweight, demountable panels also support offsite prefabrication, offering a versatile solution for demanding environments.”

FIREFLY ® SPAN SPECIFIED FOR ROYAL SHREWSBURY HOSPITAL EXPANSION
FIREFLY ® Span is helping safeguard a £ 312 million expansion and refurbishment project at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, providing fire protection across construction joints in the new clinical facilities.
The project, led by main contractor Vinci on behalf of Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust, with AHR heading the design team, includes refurbishment of the A & E department. Manchester-based specialist subcontractor Complete Fire Solutions( NW) is installing the one-hour intumescent fire seal.
Site Manager Dewi Grundy explained that approximately 350 linear metres of construction joints require protection. The 50 x 50mm version of FIREFLY ® Span is being installed within predominantly 130mmdeep reinforced concrete and plasterboard walls, approximately four metres high.
FIREFLY ® technical specialists have provided installation training and will return to verify the completed work.
Developed to prevent the spread of fire, smoke and sound through construction joints in walls and floors for up to 60 minutes, FIREFLY ® Span combines open-celled polyurethane foam impregnated with fireresistant chemicals and layers of intumescent graphite. Tested to BS EN 1366-4, the material expands when exposed to heat, sealing gaps against flames and hot gases.
The product also offers thermal and airtightness benefits. Its straightforward installation requires no adhesives or mechanical fixings, while its flexibility allows it to accommodate structural movement and regain its original form after compression.
FIREFLY ® Marketing Manager Jason Steer said Span is suitable for construction, movement, expansion and perimeter joints, helping specifiers and installers achieve reliable compartmentation in line with design requirements.
